Myth About Old Computers

typewriter computerMaybe your computer is getting old and you’re thinking it’s time for a new computer. Some computers are not as old as you think and unlike humans that slow down with age, electronics works or it doesn’t. Its true that some electronic circuits may perform intermittently or malfunction permanently due to component aging, but for the most part, an old computer can perform just as well in its old age as it did when it was new. Any slowness is usually due to issues with the software. Fix the software and you fix the speed issue. An exception to this is if you are trying to run software your system doesn’t meet the requirements for in which you may only be able to correct with an upgrade to your hardware such as more memory.

Aside from Malware problems, your computer should last a good 3 – 5 years or more. To get an idea how old your computer is, check which operating system you have below:

  • 1998: Windows 98
  • 2000: Windows ME/2000
  • 2002: Windows XP
  • 2006: Windows Vista
  • 2009: Windows 7
