When a customer brings in their Desktop PC Computer for repair, I often get asked if we repair laptops as well. I’m not sure why they would wonder about that other than maybe some PC Techs only fix desktops. If you know a better reason, please comment below.
The majority of problems people have with their Windows-based computers these days are malware infections, whether they be viruses, trojans, spyware or whatever. But whether your problem is an infection, a stubborn problem with the Windows Operating System, or even with some program you use, they are just “software” problems.
Software problems don’t care if you are using a desktop or a laptop PC, and neither do we when it comes to repairing a PC or a Laptop. In most cases, you don’t even have to open-up the computer to repair a software problem unless you have to take the hard drive out and scan it from another computer. But a good tech will always pull-off the cover on a desktop to do a visual inspection.
But for a laptop, this would involve a lot of work just to get a quick look inside and is usually not done for routine software problems. But a good tech will at least look for obvious signs of external physical damage and will check that the fans, intake and exhaust ports are not clogged. But the customer should be doing this check themselves as well, because heat is the biggest killer of laptops next to being dropped.
At Gakidoo’s Computer Repair, we use a simple, flat-rate pricing solution for both desktop and laptops with our in-shop repair service, although onsite service is charged hourly for repairs. A computer is a computer. Anyway, I just wanted to clear up the question about whether we repair both Desktop PCs and Laptops. We do both!
