What Kind of CPU Processor Does My Computer Have?
Processors: Intel Celeron, Pentium, Core2 Duo, Quad-Core, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, AMD Sempron, Athlon, Athlon 64 Athlon X2, Phenom X4 and on and on and on. The question people ask though is: What kind of Processor does my computer have?

For most brand name computers, there is probably a label or a sticker on the front panel of your computer that identifies the “basic” type of CPU Processor you have. But if you want more details than that, you can open up the computer, remove the CPU Fan, clean off the thermal paste, and get a magnifying glass to read the CPU identification information stamped on top of the CPU. While you are at it, you can also note the socket type for your CPU as well, in case you need to buy a new CPU Cooler. Anyway, the average person will probably never have to do this, especially when there is an easier way to identify the CPU without ever opening the case.
An Easier Way to Identify the CPU
Yes, there are many ways to identify your CPU, but the easiest method is by using the built-in System Information utility in Windows. To view System Information, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information.
A Few Other Methods of Identifying CPUs
- CPU-Z
CPU-Z is my favorite. CPU-Z is a portable program that provides a graphical interface to display some very detailed information about your CPU, as well as your Motherboard, Memory, SPD, and Video Card. You can even save the information to a .txt or .html file. Click CPU-Z to view my YouTube video presentation.

- Intel® Processor Identification Utility
The Intel® Processor Identification Utility is provided by Intel Corporation to enable customers to identify the brand, features, package, intended frequencies and actual operating frequencies of their Intel® microprocessor. Customers can also use the utility to discern whether or not an Intel processor is being operated above its Intel rated frequency.
