Why is the Internet Slow?

I learned years ago that if there was no internet, that most people wouldn’t be interested in owning a computer. Think about it, how many times a week do you turn on your computer? Now be honest, how many times in that same week would you turn on your computer if you had no internet access? I think you see my point.

But when you are browsing the internet, how many times do you ask yourself “Why is the internet slow”? Here at Gakidoo’s, it is probably the most commonly asked question I get. Before I get to why the internet may be slow, I need to set a few things straight between your internet browser and your internet connection, you need to know because it might make the difference between who you call when you have a “slow” internet problem. I wouldn’t automatically call your Internet Service Provider (ISP) until you isolate if the problem is in-house or not, which is pretty easy to do most of the time.

Another DoubleMySpeed.com Review

Another DoubleMySpeed.com Review

If you listen to the radio at work or watch TV at night, you probably couldn’t avoid hearing the commercials about a computer software product from DoubleMySpeed.com. In fact, it goes by several names such as MyCleanPC.com, MaxMySpeed.com and it’s parent company’s name, CyberDefender.com. They all promote the same products under the CyberDefender name and “none” of them are worth your time. They aren’t fake products, but they aren’t exactly quality products either. Although they heavily rely on their commercial that tout their free online diagnosis, their products won’t fix a thing for you until you buy it first. Just know that there are many reputable alternatives that offer fully functional free trials of their security products, so there is no good reason to even try CyberDefender unless you somehow identified with the actor portrayals and believed their academy award performance, but don’t get your hopes up. Anyway, I made a quick DoubleMySpeed video review below which you can watch and decide for yourself.

I remember when it was mostly the “high-risk” internet surfer who had to worry, but these days, you can also add “the naive” to the list. [...]

Computer Performance – How to Speed Up Windows XP for Free

Before you go out and download some questionable product to speed-up your computer that you heard about from a TV or Radio commercial, why not try using a few tools already built-in to Windows first. You could do  what is called a Selective Startup and turn-off some visual effects (your probably won’t notice the loss [...]

How to Speed Up Windows Vista

How to Speed Up Windows Vista

There are many reasons for a slow computer such as a hardware problem, too many programs running in the background, running memory hogging applications, too many Windows visual effects (it is a GUI after all), and maybe even a virus or spyware infection. Some people decide for some reason that they just need to buy more ram. But, I always like to see what can be tweaked (or tuned-up) for free to squeeze out the most performance from the hardware I already have before I would go out and buy more ram.
